ABOUT

The EWFL was developed from scratch by a group of active Essex Walking Football Clubs from all corners of the County and was created with the help and expert guidance of the team at Essex County FA. The League was formed in November 2016.

The EWFL is a not-for-profit community-based organisation and is dependent upon donations from our clubs and other sources of revenue to be able to pay for our administrative expenses, tournaments and events. Our Officers and Committee members are volunteers and they give up their time freely.

The EWFL believes that Walking Football is a social and recreational sport.

Our aims and objectives are:

  • The promotion of walking football in Essex.
  • To support the development of the Essex Walking Football League, within Essex and the five London Boroughs of Essex i.e. Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest.
  • To provide competitive opportunities with no contact between its players.
  • Not to promote a ‘win at all costs’ attitude. We will cultivate an all inclusive environment in, which players can enjoy themselves.
  • To help others to become more mobile and physically fit and to expand their social circles.

From Season 2018 the EWFL created three ‘age-related’ Divisions (‘Competitions’). An Over 65’s Division, an Over 60’s Division and an Over 50’s Division. Dependent upon attracting club’s from each of the Essex County Districts from Season 2019 some of the age-related Divisions were to split North and South.

All member clubs must be affiliated to their local FA and all players must be registered with the EWFL prior to playing.

The current ‘League Rules’ and all other relevant forms can be found on our ‘Policies‘ page.

Season 2020 starts on the 1st March 2020 and finish on the 31st October 2020 before Covid, but now cancelled. From Season 2020 EWFL fixtures will be played on accredited venues, which must be based in the County of Essex.

It was decided at the AGM of the 10th December 2019 that as from Season 2020 all clubs wishing to join the EWFL will pay a £50.00 league club membership fee and a £5.00 fee for each player registered to play in the EWFL. This will ensure that there continues to be a league with a solid foundation and structure and thereby removes any ongoing indebtedness to any one individual or creditor. The League reserves the right to review this each season.

The EWFL intentions are to provide competitive opportunities with no contact between its players. Good sportsmanship is expected from all involved: the players, coaches and spectators. In this regard the EWFL has a zero tolerance policy with regards to physical contact that can cause
injury, dissent, abuse argumentative behaviour, swearing, and sarcasm towards match officials.

All matches will be played under the Essex Walking Football League rules. These are based on the FA’s original LOTG template and our competition rules have been adjusted to ensure that physical contact is not made in order to win the ball or gain an advantage without taking the ball cleanly
and thereby ensuring all game play is fair.
