Coronavirus Update: FA Announcement on Grassroots Football – Impact on EWFL?
The Essex Walking Football League sought advice from the Essex County FA regarding the Football Association recent announcement about the suspension of grassroots football leagues.
We would like to confirm that the EWFL is classified as being a ‘Summer League’ and because we have already commenced our season fixtures the FA have confirmed via the ECFA that we would be able to re-commence our fixtures once we have received their clearance i.e. when it’s safe to do so.
Once walking football recommences the league can look to see how much time is remaining before the end of the season and can plan appropriately. At the moment the EWFL Committee are anticipating that it is not going to be before the 30th June 2020. Therefore, if and when we get the go ahead it is likely to be shortened version of the current league format or a revision thereof.
